Job Purpose: manage, support, and maintain a municipality's IT environment. Ensure that computer systems, servers, and networks remain secure, reliable, and fit for business operations, ultimately minimizing operational risks and maximizing user productivity.
Job Responsibilities: • Installing and Configuring Systems: responsible for setting up and configuring new hardware and operating systems. Implementing a new server or configuring a network, ensure that all systems are properly integrated into the municipal IT infrastructure. • Monitoring System Performance: Performance monitoring and maintaining optimal system functionality. Use various tools to track server loads, network traffic, and system errors. By constantly monitoring, prevent downtime and optimise the performance of the municipal IT systems. • Maintaining System Security: Implement and manage firewalls, antivirus software, and security policies to protect systems from Cyber threats. Oversee data backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure data is safe and can be quickly restored if compromised. • User Account Management: Managing user access to systems and networks. Handle user permissions, set up new accounts, and ensure that all access is properly controlled and secure. Resetting passwords, updating security credentials, and troubleshooting login issues. • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Identifying and fixing IT issues. Diagnosing network failures to resolving software glitches. • Updating Systems and Software: Keeping systems up to date for both performance and security. Regularly update software, apply patches, and ensure that all systems are using the latest versions of critical applications and operating systems. • Supporting End Users: Provide direct technical support to employees. Assist with hardware problems, software issues, and system access challenges, ensuring users can work efficiently without IT interruptions. • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, procedures, and incidents. Prepare regular reports for management, highlighting key risks and mitigation efforts.
Role Requirements: Grade12. National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology or equivalent, Computer literacy: MS Office, 2 - 5 years’ experience in Information Technology, Valid driver’s license.
